America’s Got Talent 2017: Deaf Jazz Singer Mandy Harvey Performs “Try”, A Song She Wrote About Losing Her Hearing At The Age Of 18

In June 2017, on an episode of America’s Got Talent, 29-year-old jazz singer-songwriter Mandy Harvey performed a song entitled “Try”, a song she had written about losing her hearing altogether at the tender age of 18 and, ultimately, having to re-learn how to sing through the use of vibrations.

Despite a complete loss of hearing, which is caused by a connective tissue disorder, Mandy Harvey has released three studio albums, one of which received critical acclaim from jazz critics. She describes her condition: “I left music after I lost my hearing and then figured out how to get back into singing with muscle memory using visual tuners and trusting my pitch.”
