The League Of Gentlemen – Attachments Dating Agency

The following clip is taken from The League of Gentlemen, a black-comedy television series which aired on BBC Two from 1999 to 2002 and was the brainchild of Steve Pemberton (Benidorm, Whitechapel), Reece Shearsmith (High-Rise, The World’s End), Mark Gatiss (Sherlock, Doctor Who), and Jeremy Dyson. Credited with the rebirth of the sketch-show format in BBC comedy, alongside The Fast Show, the show — renowned for its surreal, absurd and uncompromising humour — centres around the lives of strange townsfolk in Royston Vasey.

The comedy troupe, which began their act as a stage show (ultimately winning a Perrier Award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe) and then a radio show, have since gone on to be a formidable collaboration in subsequent years, starring in such TV shows as Psychoville and Inside No. 9, and paved the way for a new brand of comedy, one which is unrelenting, mischievous and, quite frankly, sickening at times.
